Emma. is the classic Jane Austen film. Love lives. Meddling. Romance. Fixing up those who know or don't know that they are perfect for each other. And of course, the realization that the meddling matchmaker also wants to find love, even when she spends her time and energy focusing on others. If you seen other versions of Emma or read the book or seen Pride and Prejudice, you've seen the film. But that doesn't make it any less adorable or enjoyable! A classic is a classic for a reason.
And, as always is the case with well done period pieces, the costuming is just magnificent. As is also the case with Jane Austen films, the hair styling is incredible and the makeup artist rides the coattails to the nomination. My only surprise is that I thought surely this film would also be nominated for Production Design because that was equally beautiful and often gets attention from the Academy.
I recommend the film!
